We're constantly improving our standards and procedures in pursuit of health and safety excellence. We monitor activity in the field and health and safety practitioners carry out regular formal audits. Outcomes from audits are reported in detail and activity is tracked through to completion so business leaders can make informed decisions. Our dedicated health and safety teams are always on hand to support and advise colleagues on any H&S matter, no matter how small.
Our health and safety values are communicated and encouraged at every level, creating a culture where every single colleague is responsible for safety. Our business leaders make regular site visits to understand the safety-related issues our colleagues face and to reinforce safety values in person.
In 2021, every company within City achieved a RoSPA Gold Health and Safety Award, in addition to the Gold Fleet Safety Award and a third RoSPA President's Award. Our cleaning teams also supported Asda in being voted the safest supermarket to shop in during the pandemic (as voted by the Grocer magazine).
Last year we carried out over 760 audits to measure health and safety compliance, and provided 2,700 colleagues with technical and health and safety training. Colleagues are incentivised and rewarded through recognition schemes, such as our 'top drivers of the month' initiative.
