We are relentless in our pursuit of health and safety excellence and work constantly to improve our standards and procedures.
In 2020, we carried out over 760 audits to measure health and safety compliance and provided 2,700 colleagues with technical and HSE-related training.
Our HSE values are communicated at every level of the organisation, creating a company culture where every single colleague owns, and is responsible for, safety. Colleagues that demonstrate our HSE values are rewarded through recognition initiatives.
In 2021, all companies within the City group achieved a RoSPA Gold Health and Safety Award, as well as a Gold Fleet Safety Award and third RoSPA President's Award.
We have a robust system in place to monitor and audit activity in the field. Formal health and safety audits are carried out by competent health and safety practitioners. Outcomes and findings from the planned audits are reported to business leaders, and activity is tracked through to completion.
Our business leaders make a required number of leadership safety visits every year, giving them a strong understanding of the safety-related issues our colleagues face, and the opportunity to promote safety face-to-face.
Our teams worked tirelessly to support our clients in continuing operations during the Covid-19 pandemic. Hygiene was (and still is) a vital focus areas. Our cleaning teams supported Asda in being voted the safest supermarket to shop in during the pandemic, as voted by the Grocer magazine.
